SystmOne Electronic Patient Flow Goes Live in Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust
TPP will deploy SystmOne to The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The Trust will begin using SystmOne in March 2010 to manage patient flow across three hospitals in Dewsbury, Wakefield and Pontefract. The Trust currently has around 1,200 beds, treats approximately 86,000 in-patients, 45,000 day cases and has 500,000 out-patient appointments each year. It serves the Wakefield and North Kirklees areas, as well as patients from South Leeds, North Yorkshire, Barnsley and Doncaster.
Mr. Paul Curley, Consultant Surgeon and Clinical Director of IM&T, The Mid Yorkshire Hospital Trust, said,
"We are excited to begin using SystmOne as a tool to improve patient flow and Bed Management. We believe that the visual display of real-time patient alerts will help our staff to make the best treatment decisions as quickly as possible. The analytical tools available within the product will allow continual improvement in our ability to deliver high quality care where and when it is needed."
SystmOne will provide a complete patient flow solution. Information will be instantly accessible from a secure screen, providing at-a-glance and detailed views of the whole organisation. The information will also be shared across all three sites, so bed availability can be quickly seen. SystmOne will receive ADT messages from the Trust's Patient Administration System and will integrate with other systems already in use in the hospital.
Jasmine Musgrave, Clinical Systems Analyst, TPP, said,
"We have worked closely with The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust throughout the design process to ensure that our product meets the Trust's needs. New functionality has been developed which will identify gender breaches, for example when males and females are allocated to the same bay, or when a male patient has to walk through a female ward to use the bathroom. Staff will also benefit from the ability to report on beds at the click of a button. This means information on admissions, free beds and expected discharges is readily available. SystmOne's patient flow solution will transform the working lives of hospital staff and improve patient care."
The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust already uses the SystmOne Community module in Clinical Psychology, Diabetes, Joint Therapies, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy services. SystmOne is used in 60% of GP practices in the NHS Wakefield District and in 58% of practices in NHS Kirklees. SystmOne is also used in Child Health units, Community and Out of Hours services in these areas. 95% of GP practices in North Kirklees use SystmOne, and if patients from here are referred to hospital, they will benefit from a fully integrated patient record across all care settings.
