Case Study: Central and North West London NHS Trust Streamlines Mental Health Referrals with SystmConnect

TPP is pleased to share the successful implementation of SystmConnect at Central and North West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust, where the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) has transformed its self-referral process to deliver faster, more efficient care for children and young people (CYP).

Faced with a growing backlog and fragmented referral methods, CNWL’s MHST set out to streamline their processes. They selected SystmConnect to consolidate all self-referral pathways into one simple, secure system. As part of the ongoing evaluation of implementing SystmConnect, have highlighted significant improvements. The MKMHST Admin team shared, “Using SystmConnect has made the way we action referrals so much more efficient, it has definitely helped to streamline the referral process in our service.”

Key outcomes include:

  • Faster turnaround from referral to assessment and treatment
  • Reduced administrative queries and clearer, more structured referrals
  • Backlog reduction, allowing the team to work in real time
  • Improved patient matching and productivity

The Trust is also leveraging the file-to-record functionality within SystmConnect to file completed questionnaires directly into the patient record. Looking ahead, Phase 2 will see integration with SystmOne’s Comms Annexe, enabling PROMS, appointment scheduling, and secure communication with CYP, families and carers.

The improved productivity and streamlined workflow are already having a measurable impact on efficiency and patient outcomes.
