TPP SystmOne are the first to achieve SNOMED CT deployment
TPP is pleased to announce that a significant milestone has been achieved with the first full deployment of SNOMED CT with a GP system supplier anywhere in the NHS.
SNOMED CT is an international vocabulary of clinical terms known as a terminology. There is a long-standing commitment to move to a single clinical terminology across the NHS, and to adopt SNOMED CT in all settings by 1 April 2020. This supports broader interoperability by allowing information to be shared across different systems and care settings.
TPP successfully became the first GP supplier to complete the deployment of SNOMED CT which is now available across the SystmOne General Practice estate. This latest addition is a landmark achievement which will allow services to provide more granular diagnosis as well as helping to facilitate a common code set for interoperable health records.
Dr John Parry, Clinical Director at TPP said “This is another important milestone that TPP has been at the forefront of delivering. Not only will clinicians benefit from additional granularity when using medical coding it also provides a platform to expand our interoperability capabilities through utilising a standard coding language. This will build on the incredible work already achieved by TPP connecting care for the NHS.”
Jon Calpin, Programme Manager, NHS Digital said “This is a really important step towards our strategic aim of moving the whole NHS to SNOMED CT, a key enabler for clinically safe interoperability.”
Following a number of successful pilots the functionality is now available to all services. The functionality can be enabled at an organisation level. More information about SNOMED CT, and instructions on how to enable it, has been made available on SystmOne via a notice.
